Vistancia Elementary School in Peoria has been named a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School for being an exemplary high-performing school by the U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. The recognition represents one of the most honorable awards a school can receive nationally for its academic excellence and high levels of achievement.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Award is presented to schools across the nation who have the highest achieving students – top 15 percent statewide – in English and Math, as measured by state assessments. Nationwide, 335 schools earned the prestigious honor and Vistancia Elementary School was one of just four Arizona schools that made the list.
Home to an estimated 900 students, Vistancia Elementary School is located in The Village at Vistancia, one of three unique lifestyle communities set within the 7,100 acre master planned community of Vistancia. The Village at Vistancia community offers a wide range of home styles, recreation centers and lifestyle experiences for the whole family.
Vistancia’s focus on connecting neighbors through a distinctive mix of community programming, excelling schools, parks and trails including a 3.5-mile Discovery Trail linking neighborhoods to outdoor recreation areas, daily fee and private golf courses, and retail sets the award-winning master plan apart from other surrounding residential offerings.
Two K-8 elementary schools, Vistancia Elementary School and Lake Pleasant Elementary School, are located in Vistancia and within close proximity for neighborhood children to walk to school.
“We are extremely proud of Vistancia Elementary School’s teachers and students for their efforts in achieving this prestigious honor and national recognition,” said Mark Hammons, vice president/general manager of Vistancia. “Our on-site schools are a vital component of the Vistanica master plan and livelihood for our residents,” he said.
Vistancia Elementary School will be honoring its students at a Blue Ribbon Award assembly event at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the school located at 30009 N. Sunrise Pt. in Peoria.
The Department of Education will honor 285 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony Nov. 9-10 in Washington D.C.
