The crown jewel of the northwest Valley and recognized as one of the premier private clubs in Arizona, Blackstone Country Club at Vistancia celebrates its 10th anniversary marked by impressive industry accolades, a distinctive operating philosophy and steady membership growth.
Since Blackstone Country Club opened in 2005 within the 7,100-acre master planned community of Vistancia in Peoria, the standout Club has received national recognition for its championship golf course and spectacular clubhouse setting including Travel + Leisure Golf, Golfweek, Golf Digest and Links Magazine.
Golf Digest’s first “Architect of the Year” Jim Engh designed the 7,089 yard golf course and created it for the avid golfers who love the game and seek a challenging and unique golf experience. The 18-hole, par 72 championship course, which has seen over 120,000 rounds of golf, was inspired by the links courses of Ireland and the concepts for a selection of the holes were incorporated into the design. Named for the volcanic rock indigenous for the area, Blackstone Country Club’s spectacular setting within the award-winning 7,100-acre master planned community of Vistancia in Peoria, Arizona features a dramatic terrain of natural Sonoran desert vistas coupled with deep channels, sheer rock faces and an elevation change on every hole.
Offering the highest in private club experiences and a member-centric philosophy has led the club to nearly triple membership over the last few years, yielding a total of 289 members.
“We have created a unique member-centric organization, which has played a large role in driving club growth,” said Scott Heideman, general manager of Blackstone Country Club. “Our leadership and staff at Blackstone Country Club are committed to delivering the highest level of hospitality to our members and to creating extraordinary one-of-a-kind experiences at every touch point around the club.”
“We believe our members are our most valuable assets, helping to evolve and enhance our member offerings, and ultimately serving as ambassadors for new members,” Heideman said.
Blackstone Country Club was designed as a club for all generations to enjoy. Resort-inspired experiences are offered throughout the 30,000-square-foot Hacienda-styled clubhouse. Cozy courtyards with fireplaces welcome members to an outdoor great room overlooking the desert and spectacular mountain range. The highly-amenitized clubhouse offers exceptional dining, a wide range of member programming including winemaker dinners, cooking classes, fitness and tennis, and a full calendar of children’s activities.
On the club’s second floor featuring impressive desert and golf course views is a 3,000-square-foot state-of-the-art fitness center with the latest strength-training equipment for group and individual training sessions. In the movement studio, members can choose from a variety of classes and a serene spa suite for massage services.
Head golf professional Aaron Bedal, who has been with Blackstone Country Club since opening says there is no better job in the world than being the golf pro at the club, offering the opportunity to work with a wide range of golfers and their families.
Bedal has known some of the younger golfers playing in the junior golf program since they were toddlers. “It’s so much more than a golf course or a country club — it’s a real family here. I enjoy working with our active members here every day and getting to know them personally,” he said.
While Bedal has seen so many advances in golf instruction over the years, it’s the growth of the interest in golf from the club’s younger members that he is most passionate about. “We really want to grow the game for the kids and have even more young golfers learning and enjoying the game; that is a big focus for us in 2016,” he said.
“Blackstone Country Cub provides a genuine connectivity with family, friends and neighbors. Our intent was to appeal to families with kids in addition to golf lovers by offering diverse amenities in an upscale atmosphere, and that’s what we feel sets us apart,” said Mark Hammons, vice president/general manager of Vistancia. “We are honored with its success over the past 10 years. Blackstone Country Club is a very special place and we are extremely excited about its future.”
In addition to regular member golf play, Blackstone Country Club hosts several charitable golf tournaments each year, raising more than $600,500 in charitable donations since opening. Among those donations, more than $227,000 has been raised for the club’s annual signature charity tournament, the Singleton Moms event benefiting local single parents who are battling cancer.
