Purchase Handmade Angels for $10 to Support the American Cancer Society
Vistancia will host the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life – the world’s largest fundraising event to end cancer on Saturday, November 5th from NOON – 7 PM. Teams of Walkers take turn walking a quarter-mile course at Vistancia’s Mountain Vista Club in The Village at Vistancia while raising money for the American Cancer Society.
The event will include cancer survivor speaker, Michelle Whitlock, author of “How I Lost My Uterus and Found My Voice.” A memoir of love, hope and empowerment, the book shares Michelle’s inspirational story of falling in love, battling HPV, confronting her conflicting feelings about motherhood, becoming her own best advocate and survival. There will also be entertainment and activities including cancer prevention educational stations for children, a luminaria ceremony to honor and remember those who have fought cancer, live music, games, and raffle drawings. The Vistancia Information Center team will be selling handmade angels for $10 each, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society to fund programs, services and research. These handmade “Markie’s Angels” are made by a woman who lost her niece Markie at 5 years old due to brain damage. She had been given a clothe angel from a friend after Markie’s passing and it helped comfort her after the loss. It was then that she begin crafting these angels in hopes to help anyone else going through tough times. She has been affiliated with Relay for Life for over 10 years and has used these angels as a way to raise money for the American Cancer Society. “Markie’s Angels” can be purchase by making a $10 cash donation at The Vistancia Information Center or the HOA office located at the Mountain Vista Club.
